Colocation provider Telehouse enlisted Hitachi's support to almost triple the peak maximum power of its London’s Docklands site.

This was required to cover the power demand increased by the additional, newly built data center, whilst reinforcing the level of redundancy protection.

Overview

– Hitachi was responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of an indoor 132 kV GIS substation, with 11 kV distribution, to connect directly to the UK Power Networks 132 kV circuits.

Outcomes

– Indoor installation to allow compact footprint and best use of the Telehouse campus real estate and to increase physical safety and security for the data center operator.

– Minimal noise and disruption impact on the major Dockland businesses in the central London area, thanks to careful planning and scheduling of deliveries and civil works.

– This collaboration provided the opportunity to continue to drive technology development for eco-friendly, high-density data centers.
